MAGATLE GROUNDWATER DEVELOPMENT

The groundwater development project has been conducted for the Capricorn District Municipality in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Groundwater investigations were conducted for the drilling of ten (10) boreholes for water supply purposes for Magatle & surrounding villages. Geophysical investigations for borehole siting were conducted using the Magnetic method, Electro-seismic Method, Water detection Technique and the Soil Resistivity Method. Borehole drilling was conducted using Air rotary percussion drilling method. The ten boreholes were drilled to at least 120 m depth each & were each drilled & pump tested according to Department of Water & Sanitation Guidelines. The ten boreholes were all successfully drilled and a total yield = 2.60 Mega liters / day was developed for the village.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE PROJECTS

Geohydrological investigations & Equipping were successfully conducted for at least fourteen (14) small scale agricultural projects. The Department of Agriculture (Mpumalanga Province) instituted a groundwater project aimed at improving rural livelihoods especially at small holder projects. The aim was to conduct borehole siting, drilling & equipping of at least one borehole per selected project. Borehole equipping per project site included the installation of a motorized submersible pump, 10 00 liter Jojo tank mounted on a 3.5 m high tank stand, lockable manhole cover, reticulation & installation of at least one stand pipe / tap at each of the 14 projects. Due to unavailability of electricity at the selected projects – diesel powered generators were supplied to power the submersible pumps.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION PROJECTS

AFRI GS 95 (PTY) LTD has successfully conducted at least fifteen (15) school groundwater investigation and installation projects for the Department of Education (Limpopo Province). The project scope entailed siting, drilling, testing and equipping of at least one borehole per school. Equipping at each school included installation of an electrical powered submersible pump, automatic control box, 10 KL Jojo tank & 4.2 m high tank stand, lockable borehole protection box, reticulation and installation of at least 3 stand pipes / taps & soakaway. Geohydrological investigations were conducted at each of the fifteen (15) schools by employing scientific techniques of groundwater exploration.
